The 1997 Nevada Brothel Pricing Survey. (May 04, 1997; GPI#0190)

Last Modified : February 16, 2002

Executive Summary :

Since there are no flat pricing rates for intercourse in the Nevada brothels, and prices by law can not be advertised, it is difficult to accurately describe to a brothel newbie what the prices are. Hence, the following report of a survey of twenty-seven anonymous online brothel customers who had a total of 146 parties where vaginal penetration occurred.

In short, the survey shows that the average amount paid per hour was $335, with median $300 per hour and standard deviation $140 per hour. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of all surveyed parties fell in the range of $150 - $500 per hour, for vaginal intercourse. Please understand that these figures are for an hourly rate ; the actual time of a session with a Nevada prostitute may vary widely, from twenty minutes to several hours depending on what the customer contracts for (in time or in specific activities).

The general consensus among my readers when this report was made public was that the prices being paid in this survey seemed high, but since this survey the prices that I have heard that other Internet customers are actually paying are consistent with the rates revealed by this survey.

As always, the only way you will ever know the actual price that a specific lady will charge you is to step with her into the privacy of her room and negotiate.

Note from Bashful : My second pricing survey is now complete, and can be found here.

The survey : Posted on May 04, 1997

A couple of days ago I got a message from "Broker = Sweet Prince", asking me why it was taking me so long to compile the results of my pricing survey, and hinting that perhaps I had forgotten all my statistical analysis education. I told him that my pricing survey was complete, and that I was only waiting for the uproar to die down over a certain other recent and less discreet pricing information revelation.

Well, my pricing survey was almost complete. I had intended to make some nice plots of the data and make images out of them, but I kept putting it off. About once a week a new survey submission would trickle in, and I didn't want to plot the data until I had included the most recent submission. Oh, well, maybe someone else can do some plotting ...

So I now proclaim my Nevada brothel pricing survey to be complete. If you wish, you can always read my original announcement, but I am no longer taking submissions. A total of twenty-seven gentlemen took part in the survey, with a grand total of 165 sessions reported between them. Of those, 146 involved vaginal penetration, and 19 were not (standard blow-jobs, hand-jobs, etc.).

All but two were confirmed report authors. I got too lazy to determine if those remaining two were report authors or not, but since their sessions were very few and not particularly unusual in length or price, I just left them in since their presence won't alter the results. However, my own data did not go into this report. The reason why I left my sessions out was because most readers know who I've been with, and I promised in this survey that I wouldn't reveal which authors took part in it, and which ladies they partied with.

I am sure that many of you readers are going to wonder just how accurate these results are. The results of this survey need much in the way of qualification.

First of all, twenty-five of the submitters are confirmed field report authors, most of whom I have corresponded with extensively. I have a lot of faith in the veracity of their information in so far as believing that they didn't just make it up. Most people who go to the trouble to fake a report probably only do it once and then move on, but these report authors have sent me many reports and told me information that I have been able to independently confirm, and have convinced me that they really have paid visits to the Nevada brothels. Sure, there is some room for some fake data in these survey results, but I am confident that there is very little, and certainly not enough to significantly alter the main statistics and conclusions.

One of the biggest problems that I've seen with discussions about prices in the Nevada brothels is that fellows usually only mention what they paid, and not how long the party lasted. Whether you had a fifteen minute quickie or an eleven hour outdate makes a big difference! Comparing the prices for those two makes little sense. So I requested that all submitted session information give both price paid and how long it lasted so that I could compute the hourly rate, which is a much more meaningful measurement of price than just the total price. It seems that guys have a much better memory of the total price than how long the session lasted, so there could be more noise in those time estimates than the price estimates, but averaging the hourly rate over all sessions should sort out some of these problems since presumably some time estimates were too high while others were too low, balancing out in the end (the law of averages).

The main result is given in the following table :

Price Rate RangePercentage
125 - 1754.8
175 - 22517.1
225 - 27516.4
275 - 32521.2
325 - 3756.8
375 - 42515.1
425 - 4752.7
475 - 5256.8
525 - 5750.7
575 - 6253.4
625 - 6751.4
675 - 7250.7
725 - 7751.4
775 - 8251.4

The price rates are in U.S. dollars per hour, and the percentages are the percentage of customers who paid in the given range of price rates. Note that this table is only for the 146 parties where vaginal intercourse occurred.

If you take a look at the raw statistics, then you will see two tables, both sorted by hourly rate. The first table is for the above distribution table, which covers vaginal intercourse, and the second table is for non-intercourse.

So here is the main course. The average hourly rate that the participants in this survey are paying for vaginal intercourse is $335 per hour, and $254 per hour for non-intercourse. The medians for those two distributions are $300 and about $220. For those of you who don't recall or know the difference between an average and a median, then understand that an average is the sum of the sample values divided by the number of samples, whereas the median is that value where half the samples are above it and half are below it, and in general the average and the median for a distribution are different.

The average total cost of a vaginal intercourse session is $593, and on average it lasts 1.95 hours (one hour, 57 minutes). The average cost for a session with no vaginal intercourse is $190, and has average length 0.84 hours (50 minutes).

The average hourly rate for vaginal intercourse versus blow-job is not hugely different ($335 versus $254), but the average total amount per session spent on intercourse versus non-intercourse is over three times as much, and the average length of a vaginal intercourse party is over twice that of a party without.

The fact that only 12% of the sessions were without intercourse tells me that Internet customers tend to go for the full treatment. My personal impression, and what other guys tell me (I haven't asked the ladies), is that the general customer, who is not on the Internet (yet!), tends to go for short-time blow-jobs, so there is something very different here about the Internet customers, who were of course the only ones to participate in this study. As for that $335 per hour average rate for intercourse, I suspect that this is high compared to what the average customer pays. Internet customers probably have deeper pockets than the average customer. I have no real proof of this, but it makes sense. As for how much more the average Internet customer is paying per hour for intercourse than the average non-Internet customer, I haven't a clue.

Those of you who are concerned about unusual parties skewing the results, you can do your own analysis since I provide you the raw data. I will answer no questions about the raw data concerning which lady, which customer, or which brothel. This is how I decided to conduct this survey, and I will stick to it, regardless of how other individuals may choose to conduct their own survey.

Some submissions gave the amount paid and then the tip. I added the two, though a point could be made that I shouldn't have. The results should still be much the same if I hadn't added the tip, and I'm too lazy to go back and confirm this or note it in the raw data. There were only a few instances where the customer contracted for a certain amount of time, and the time either went over that agreed to amount or the customer decided to walk early. I decided to use the actual time of the session, and again I doubt that the results would have been much different if I had handled it differently. If someone in the future wishes to conduct their own pricing survey, then they should probably decide ahead of time how they want to handle fine issues such as these, and let their Internet readers know whether they should provide additional information in their submissions.

Note that the lowest hourly rate for intercourse was $125, but was for a 24 hour long outdate that set the fellow back $3000. The highest hourly rate was $820, costing $2460 and lasting for three hours. Most interesting!

There are a lot of other things that I did in analyzing this data, but probably they would only be of interest to statisticians, and give little or no further insight into the issue at hand. At one point I was convinced that I had made a major error somewhere, since for intercourse the average price is $593 and the average length is 1.95 hours, giving a supposedly average price per hour of 593/1.95 = $304 per hour, which is not the computed $335 per hour. Eventually I wrote down the equations and proved that there is no error, that the ratio of the sums is not equal to the average of the ratios. A little fact that I had forgotten from my college days!

There is one pitfall (pratfall?) in thinking only in terms of the hourly rate. Some ladies may reject an offer of $200 for one hour, but would gladly accept $800 for four hours. This makes a lot of sense if you think about it for awhile. This way the lady has a guarantee that she will be busy and not be sitting in the parlor for three hours waiting for more gentlemen to show up. Also, there is a lot of downtime associated with fixing up her makeup and hair and cleaning the room and lots of other things that the lady has to do between parties, and all this extra stuff gets minimized if she can make the same amount of money servicing one customer instead of four. And then there is the physical exhaustion of having to service four customers instead of one. This last must certainly be a big factor!

All Internet customers of the Nevada brothels know that the brothels take half of the money that you give the lady of your choice. This is a point that is repeatedly mentioned on my website and elsewhere. Just remember that if the average amount that we Internet dudes are paying for intercourse is $335 per hour, then what the lady is actually getting on average is $167 per hour.

I will now let this rest, and move on. One thing that scares me is that the ladies may use this kind of information against us. For instance, you may try to negotiate so that you never pay more than the average $335 per hour, but the lady may say to you, "I am above average", and try to get you to pay more. It is a statistical impossibility for all of the ladies to have an about average hourly rate, so this pricing survey could backfire on us and lead to even higher prices. Please don't hit me when you see me in July!
