EDITORIAL #009 :
This past week I read two things being said by the brothels which did not appear ethical to me. I will present my cases here and let you, the reader, decide for yourself.
If you click here you will read the following statement by Marilyn, a legal Nevada prostitute working at The Sagebrush Ranch outside Carson City, in Moundhouse. The text of her message reads :
"Tokens are only accepted if presented before or during negotiations. I can't imagine a customer not remembering the discount since many customers want to pay the least possible price. If it does happen, the girl may alter her price or accept the token if she wishes."
Marilyn wrote this in a thread about the Sagebrush anniversary party being given on March 14 through 16, and the 20% discount that guys attending it can get. I'm with FredT on this. When a business is advertising a discount, they don't tell you that you may have to pay more if you try to use the discount, which is exactly what Marilyn wrote.
I am really scratching my head over this, since there is no way to interpret it as anything but a 20% discount promotion to get guys to visit and party, but, since the working girls know that a discount is being given they can counter it by pushing up their rate by 20%, thereby negating the effect of the discount. Is this unethical? I say that it is, and I say that the way to make it ethical is very simple - enforce the discount after the negotiations have been made without required prior knowledge of the discount.
Twice I've met Marilyn in the beautiful parlor of The Sagebrush Ranch, and I have enjoyed those wonderful conversations with such a delightful and intelligent woman. I am thinking of two very good customers of hers who are friends of mine, who sing high praises of her, and I don't doubt for a second that she is a good person. My assumption here is that Marilyn is caught in a bind, between being the person who is posting publicly and having to conform to the arbitrary decisions of some unknown member of the Sagebrush management. I am not alone in having a high opinion of the owner of the Sagebrush Ranch, Marvin Gates, and I expect that if someone would bring this to his attention then it will be corrected, because frankly this discount offer smells really skank.
The Moonlite Bunny Ranch and Kitty's Ranch has offered 50% discounts before and honored them, discounts that did not have to be disclosed until after all negotiations were final. Marvin, if you are reading this, then you know what needs to be done.
As for Dennis Hof, owner of The Moonlite Bunny Ranch and Kitty's Ranch, well, there are some choice words that many people I know use to describe Dennis, and "ethical" ain't one of them! To give him credit (sometimes you just gotta give the devil his due, eh?), he has honored a substantial 50% discount that was, admittedly, offered in as ethical manner as possible, and he is to be commended for it, and publicly at that.
However, there are presently several threads going on about Spectator Magazine's advertizements for Hof's brothels, such as this. Dennis Hof denies paying for those ads here and here :
"WE DON'T PAY SPECTATOR FOR ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET"
"I don't own or run the site and I dont pay for it"
This, too, does not pass the smell test. For years now I've maintained that Hof must be paying for those advertizements, but then of course some idiot will come along and ask me to prove it. I do not have copies of Hof's canceled checks or knowledge of freebies given in return for the service or anything of the kind, but if it reeks then you know that something is wrong, bigtime.
A couple of years or so ago I got a telephone call from two guys with Spectator Magazine, asking me questions about the CyberWhoreMonger Club because Kitty's had won the Brothel of the Year award and they told me that they had been told (by who?) to write an article about it by their then-looming deadline. I figured they would deny they were paid by Hof, or would ignore my questions to that effect, so in addition to answering their questions I offered very true but unflattering information about Dennis Hof for them to put on their website. Oh, man! Those fellows couldn't hang up fast enough! They did not even want to check out my stories, as any true "editorial" writer would. It was obvious they didn't want anything but the most positive portrayal of Dennis Hof to be on that website, and it was then that I knew that it (the Spectator Magazine website) being unpaid for and uncontrolled by Dennis Hof was all utter nonsense.
The reason why Hof doesn't want to admit he pays for those Spectator Magazine ads is because he can't legally pay for them, and Dennis is already in enough hot water with the Lyon County commissioners as it is. So, why do they let him get away with it?
Oh, and Dennis Hof wrote this in response to LadyBear :
"I always wondered how married people carry on a relationship while in pussy prison, do you write letters daily."
That has to be a personal jibe, made in a public forum, at ArcticBear and LadyBear who are married. LadyBear used to work for Dennis Hof at Kitty's but now works for Marvin Gates at The Sagebrush. Dennis is a real class act, ain't he though?
On a different topic, almost every week day I visit the Wired News website, so you can imagine my surprise when I clicked there and read a quote by Geoff Arnold, owner of Donna's Ranch in Wells and Donna's Battle Mountain Ranch in, well, Battle Mountain. Geoff is also President of the Nevada Brothel Association. I can't find that quote anymore on Wired News, but click here or here or here or here to read the article.
If you click here and here you will find some online information about the Nevada Brothel Association, which is :
Nevada Brothel Owners Association
George Flint, Executive Director
Other Contacts: Mr. Geoff Arnold, President, Marvin Gates, Vice President

Fax: (775) 323-4025
"The Nevada Brothel Owners Association is a group of owners of Nevada's legal and regulated brothel's. Their main purpose is to protect the status quo of state and local laws and ordinances that allow this unique business to remain operational. Additionally the owners work together to project an image of positive public relations and to be good business neighbors in their respective communities."
The public e-mail address given for Geoff Arnold is "Margaux57@aol.com".
I had not known that Marvin Gates was Vice President of the Nevada Brothel Association. Geoff, perhaps you should call up your VP and talk to him about the ethics of offering a 20% discount, only to then selectively jack up the rate by 20% due to mandatory prior knowledge of the discount.
Be seeing you.
