EDITORIAL #015 :

The Chicken and Sheri's Ranch Express - A Proposal

Or, perhaps it should be the "Sheri's and Chicken Ranch Express". Regardless of the name, I am proposing a joint venture between the Las Vegas area's two premier and neighboring legal bordellos, to their mutual benefit.

It is approximately an hour's drive from the Las Vegas strip to the end of Homestead Road south of Pahrump, Nevada, which is where The Chicken Ranch and Sheri's Ranch are positioned. To me that drive is short and easy, but over the years I have learned that there are many potential customers of these two fine establishments who find that hour's journey to be a matter of some difficulty and inconvenience.

Why? Although I don't have actual statistics, it appears that a lot of travelers (most?) to Las Vegas fly, not drive, into the vacation spot. Hence, they have no wheels of their own. They can take a taxicab, but that can be an expensive trip, costing at least a couple hundred dollars directly, and indirectly can cost much more since an additional percentage (in addition to the customary fifty percent) of what the customer pays the working girl (should he choose to partake) goes to the cab driver (a "kelly"), and therefore the lady raises her rate to cover this extra cost to her. Both brothels have their own limosines, which are said to be free, but still the prostitute has to pay an additional percentage of what the customer pays her (or so I've been told). Also, in the case of the limosine services, each brothel's limo will not return a client to Las Vegas if he walks the few hundred yards to visit the other brothel, even though they were the one who brought him out, or so I'm told.

My advice over the years has been for guys to just rent a car. It is easy and inexpensive. In general, that advice still stands, but then there are those guys who are over 21 but under 25 (some rental car agencies will not rent to someone under the age of 25), others have no driver's license and / or no credit card (you need both to rent a car), or they want to drink a lot and therefore should not drive (always a good idea). It is for these guys, and for those who can but would rather not bother with the rental car, that I make this proposal, and for the two brothels (and their legal prostitutes) which I'm convinced will make money off of this.

It is time for the Chicken Ranch and Sheri's Ranch to stop working against each other and start working with each other. Sure, they remain competitors, but if they can make more money by working with each other than by working against each other, then doesn't that make good business sense?

My proposal is this : The Chicken Ranch and Sheri's Ranch jointly purchase or rent a bus. A small mini-bus may do, or they may have to go with a bigger bus, depending on the business they get. Then, at least initially while running a pilot test of this proposal, they drive regular runs between the Las Vegas Strip and their two brothels, Friday through Sunday.

This bus should be able to run a round trip from the Las Vegas Strip every three (3) hours, easily. I suggest, and this is just my suggestion since they (Sheri's and the Chicken Ranch) would know better, that the bus depart the Las Vegas Strip at 2:00 PM, 5:00 PM, 8:00 PM, 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM. That is five (5) round trips every day, initially just Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Visitors can catch the bus (at either brothel) back to the Las Vegas Strip from the brothels at 3:30 PM, 6:30 PM, 9:30 PM, 12:30 AM and 3:30 AM. Again, a different schedule than the one I propose may be better, but it will probably approximate mine.

There are many ways they can finance this joint venture. A simple round trip ticket, costing whatever is necessary to break even makes most sense (for bus cost, driver's wages, gasoline, insurance, etc.). At first it probably should be free until the news gets out about the service. My whole point here is that the brothels almost everywhere in the state, not just these two brothels, has access problems for visitors to the state (because most of the brothels are out in the boonies), and it is in their own best self interest to make visiting them as easy as possible, even if that means cooperating with their competitors because they will all benefit. This is not a "zero-sum game". I do not have a college degree in business and frankly have no experience in conducting a business, but nobody can convince me that this idea will not work without actually trying it, and trying it in good faith.

Oh, and least I forget, visitors that choose to party with a lady do not have to pay the "kelly fee" because the ladies will not be charged it. Treat the express visitors the exact same way visitors that drive themselves are treated.

This is all perfectly legal. The brothels already have their own limo service, so that is not a problem.

Oh, sure, I can hear it now. The brothels will say, "Oh, no! We'd just get a bunch of lookie-loos!" It is time the brothels, all of them, get over their high-pressure, hard-sell psychological tactics, and finally realize that the way to improve business is to make it fun and easy for customers to visit, and learn that even if they don't get instant satisfaction by having a visitor immediately pick a prostitute, they build a trust and plant a seed in the visitor's mind that will reap future dividends. I think that Sheri's Ranch is already there, or closer than most other brothels.

Yes, discretion is necessary. The bus doesn't need a "Whorehouse Express" banner on its side. How about "Ranch Runner"?

So, how about two small buses for the downtown Reno casino-hotels? One to transport visitors to The Old Bridge Ranch and to The Wild Horse Canyon Ranch? And another to move people to The Moonlite Bunny Ranch and those three fine establishments at the Kit Kat Road cul-de-sac?

Something like this wouldn't even need the approval of the brothels. Any entrepreneur could do it. Any takers?

Be seeing you.

Bashful
