EDITORIAL #042 :

Last Editorial

This is not only my last editorial, but more importantly my last LPIN weekly summary. It all comes down to priorities and time management.

A month ago, on Thursday, September 18, I got home from work and started my novel. No, it has nothing to do with prostitution - it is a science fiction novel about first contact, a subject that dominates several of the novels I carry around in my head. That first day I banged out about 800 words, and since then, a month later, have averaged a lot more words per day since my total word count is now fifty thousand.

Up to now it has been fairly easy going but I'll probably start to slow down some. For the first two months of this year I tinkered around with a written outline of the novel, and have since then added to my mental outline. The first half of the novel is fairly well mapped out (I'm now only maybe a third of the way into writing the novel) but the second half is less developed, with all major events mapped out but some of those persnicketty details yet to be decided. I know how it will end.

So what does this have to do with my quitting the weekly LPIN summary? I need time in my life to write this and other novels. Compiling that weekly LPIN summary is not the problem - when I decided to do that at the beginning of this year I made up my mind I'd only do it if it didn't suck up all my spare time, and it hasn't. That is, given the assumption that I'm going to be reading the nvbrothels.net message board traffic anyway, which I have been from its start.

But now that is the problem. Some of my friends love to complain about the nvbrothels.net message board forums, but I love them with one big exception - there is too much crap on them. There are lots of great posts being made in those forums, but they are drowned in a sea of cum see me's and me too's and just plain idle and trite chat that ought to be taken to private e-mail. There are also just too many folk there who don't seem to do anything all day long except write posts that have no real content to them. Don't they have to work for a living?

I am spending too much time just trying to weed through the reams of posts on those forums, time that I need for other things in life. I've got some novels in me that I've just got to write, even if nobody but me likes them. I may not be able to get them published, and accomplish nothing but accumulate rejection slips, or if they do get published then maybe they'll flop and my friends will tell me that my books are boring and don't make sense, but I've got to write these books and get them out of my system. Oh, and one book I'll probably never write is one on LPIN, although I may incorporate some of it in a later novel (or maybe not).

Keeping up with nvbrothels.net takes too much of my time, so I'm cutting it out. I'll read it maybe twice a week, briefly, when I post my weekly reminders for the annual July Reno/Carson City CWMCM events and the last Friday in October NYE events, but other than that I'll not be spending much time there. I'll still keep informed on LPIN from the SIN message board which thankfully is low traffic, and the Sunday evening IRC sessions. If the SIN message board becomes much busier than it is now then Interested bystander and Border Bandit will just have to go it without me but for now I'm still General Flunkie.

So I'll still be around, just not reading the nvbrothels.net message boards much and therefore not compiling the weekly links to content that I thought was interesting. Still have the same e-mail address. I intend to be at NYE#2 which is less than two weeks from now, but my employer is a the flakiest whore in the cosmos and may send me off on a business trip before then - you never know. And I'll make every July meeting for the rest of my life, and will continue to host my annual CWMCM pages for the time being but perhaps it is time for someone else to take that function over. Any volunteers?

The one big regret I've got is that I never wrote an editorial about the word "whore". There is no inherent disrespect intended when a whore is called a whore, and I tire of all the bullshit lies of all the whores and tricks and pimps (legal and otherwise) who pretend that there is. Get over yourself! Do you know what the difference is between a whore and a courtesan? The spelling.

And what is the biggest lie in LPIN? I'm not sure since there are so many, but right now I'd say it is "You get what you pay for." Usually you do, but sometimes you don't. I know of no other industry where consumer protection is so openly disdained. This gives the entire legal Nevada brothel industry a bad reputation, and is a disservice to those excellent working girls and brothel owners and managers who do work in good faith and do care about giving good service.

So, again, I'm not going away (you're not THAT fortunate!), just quiting regularly reading the nvbrothels.net board because doing so is too time-consuming. And whenever someone asks me about my progress writing novels, my response will be the star ship Enterprise's computer's "working". It may be that my novels will be crap, but I've just gotta write them.

Be seeing you.

Bashful

Postscript : I wish to apologize to my brothers, Flyfisher and Cowboy, for calling them clueless, self-delusional tricks, but then it takes one to know one, eh?
