Located in Nye County, approximately 3.5 miles southeast of the intersection of U.S. 95 and Nevada 267 at Scotty's Junction, the Shady Lady is 31.50 miles north of Beatty or 60.92 miles south from Tonopah. This brothel is found about 900 feet off the east side of the highway, in a bright yellow structure that can still be easy to miss unless you're alert. At night, look for the lighted sign (which is also a bright yellow when viewed in the daytime) by the driveway leading to the brothel. In 2007, Nye County officials accepted a petition from the Shady Lady to officially designate that former driveway as "Petticoat Lane".

The Shady Lady is also known for its "fixed price" menu (except for certain "special engagements") and for the fact that the ladies do not conduct business in their rooms - there are two special "VIP suites" where all parties are held. Also, they are not open 24/7 like most other brothels. The Shady Lady's website states that their hours are from 7:00 AM to Midnight daily (though overnight stays ARE available).

A new 1700 square foot expansion was completed in June 2006, according to the Shady Lady's owner, Bobbi Davis. There is space for an additional seven ladies, as well as a new computer room and kitchen. Bobbi also hopes to regularly have larger lineups now that the construction in the expanded living quarters is over.

In the summer of 2007, Ms. Davis won a major state court battle striking down Nevada's prohiobition on brothel advertising. Successfully arguing that other legal, regulated enterprises have the right to diecretely advertise throughout the state, the decision now makes it possible for rural houses such as the Shady Lady to place "help wanted" ads for non-prostitute positions (e.g., cooks, bartenders, and housekeeping personnel) in the metropolitan newspapers of Las Vegas and Reno, counties where LPIN brothels are currently not allowed to operate. It also affirms that brothel and individual courtesan websites are now free of the fear of violating that former ad ban. All in all, the court decision was a major victory for all of the legal brothels, both large and small, throughout the state.

Located in Esmeralda County, the Cottontail is found at the southwest corner of the junction of Nevada 266 and U.S. 95, 41.12 miles south of Tonopah (about 15 miles past the town of Goldfield) or 51.30 miles north of Beatty. This crossroads is known as Lida Junction, since it is the turnoff (from U.S. 95) used to get to the tiny settlement of Lida, which is located a few miles to the west-southwest on Nevada S.R. 266. The Cottontail dates back to October 1967, according to its website, and its property also contains the "Lida Junction Airport", a single-runway airfield.

Like many of the other Nevada brothels located in isolated, rural locations, the Cottontail's management had often faced problems in the recruitment and retention of ladies. As a result, in the early 2000s its former owners had to temporarily close this brothel on several occassions due to a lack of courtesans. After being purchased by Moe Greene in late 2003 (who in early 2004 also bought Mona's Ranch in Elko), and with the debut of their new website (in mid-December 2003), it was hoped the Cottontail would finally have a steady core of working ladies and be open for business on a more permanent basis. However, by the Spring of 2005 the Cottontail had once again fallen upon hard times, and it has been closed ever since. Mr. Greene is apparently no longer involved in the ownership, and this brothel is up for sale at an asking price of $1 million (see the website listed above - which also contains some interesting historical data about the Cottontail).

How to get to Tonopah from points to the Northwest

• From Reno (and parts of Northern California near and along U.S. 395 or I-80), you have one basic all-weather route (with two alternatives within) and one additional, non-wintertime alternate route:
  • All-Weather route:
    • Get to the junction of I-80 and U.S. 395 in Reno.
    • Take I-80 East 31 miles to Fernley, exit #26: Nevada S.R. 427 (To Alternate U.S. 50 & Alternate U.S. 95).
    • Bear right at the end of the exit, taking NV 427 as it curves into Fernley. At East Street (Alternate U.S. 95 South), you have a choice of two alternatives to get to Schurz:
      Alternative 1: via Yerington - longer (only by about 4 miles though), but easy to follow:
      • Turn right, onto Alternate U.S. 95 South (East Street), then proceed on it through Silver Springs and Yerington (where two left turns are required), then on to its southern terminus at mainline U.S. 95 in Schurz (a grand total of 72 miles from I-80).
      Alternative 2: via Fallon - shorter (not by much though), but more confusing:
      • Proceed straight at East Street onto Alternate U.S. 95 North / Alternate U.S. 50 East.
      • A little over a mile later, turn right to remain on Alternate U.S. 50 East (toward Fallon), then follow it to its eastern terminus at mainline U.S. 50 (Leetville Junction), about 20 miles total from I-80.
      • Continue straight, onto U.S. 50 East, and proceed another 9 miles into downtown Fallon, and the junction with mainline U.S. 95.
      • At the Churchill County Courthouse, turn right onto U.S. 95 South (toward Hawthorne) and follow it 39 miles to Schurz.
    • From Schurz, follow U.S. 95 South past Walker Lake, through Hawthorne, and on to Coaldale Junction, a total of about 97 miles.
    • At Coaldale Junction, U.S. 6 East joins U.S. 95 South, as the combined (multiplexed) routes head east for around 40 miles to Tonopah, where U.S. 6 splits off to the east and U.S. 95 turns south toward the brothels described on this page.

  • Alternate route (portions CLOSED in winter):
    • Get to the junction of I-80 and U.S. 395 in Reno.
    • Take U.S. 395 South from Reno, through Carson City, Minden, and Gardnerville, past Topaz Lake, and into California (about 68 miles from I-80 in Reno). Continue 41 miles or so over Devil's Gate (7519' elev.) to Bridgeport, then on south, over Conway Summit (8143' elev.) and past Mono Lake, about another 30 miles to the southern junction with California S.R. 120.
    • Turn left onto CA 120 East (CLOSED in winter), and proceed 46 miles to U.S. 6 at Benton, CA
    • Turn left onto U.S. 6 East, and follow it 7 miles to the Nevada state line, then another 34 miles to Coaldale Junction.
    • At Coaldale Junction, U.S. 6 East joins U.S. 95 South, as the combined (multiplexed) routes head east for around 40 miles to Tonopah, where U.S. 6 splits off to the east and U.S. 95 turns south toward the brothels described on this page.

• From Carson City, you have one basic all-weather route (with two front-end alternatives) and one additional, non-wintertime alternate route:
  • All-Weather route:
    • Beginning in Carson City, you have a choice of two main alternatives to get to U.S. 95 South at Schurz:
      Alternative 1: using U.S. 50 East (northern alternative):
      • Take U.S. 50 East (E. William St.) out of town and proceed about 36 miles to Alternate U.S. 95 at Silver Springs.
      • Turn right, onto Alternate U.S. 95 South, and proceed to Yerington (where two left turns are required), and on to its southern terminus at mainline U.S. 95 in Schurz, a total of 57 miles from U.S. 50.
      Alternative 2: using U.S. 395 South (southern alternative):
      • Take U.S. 395 South (Carson Street) out of town, proceeding through Minden and Gardnerville, to Nevada S.R. 208 East (just north of Topaz Lake & the California state line), about 34 miles from downtown Carson City.
      • Turn left, onto NV 208, and follow it for its entire 37.877 mile length, past Topaz Lake Estates, through Wellington (where a left turn is required), to Smith (where another left, then a right turn are required). After crossing the West Walker River, NV 208 swings north as it approaches Yerington (becoming Main Street), then ends on the north side of town at the junction with Alternate U.S. 95.
      • Continue straight on Main Street, as it now becomes Alternate U.S. 95 South (even though you're still going north at the actual intersection), curving first to the east, then later to the southeast, for a total of around 24 miles to its southern terminus at mainline U.S. 95 in Schurz.
    • From Schurz, follow U.S. 95 South past Walker Lake, through Hawthorne, to Coaldale Junction, a total of about 97 miles.
    • At Coaldale Junction, U.S. 6 East joins U.S. 95 South, as the combined (multiplexed) routes head east for around 40 miles to Tonopah, where U.S. 6 splits off to the east and U.S. 95 turns south toward the brothels described on this page.

• From East Central California near the Nevada border (and parts of Northern California near and along U.S. 50), you have several options, depending upon your point of origin and seasonal (winter) driving conditions:
  • From areas near South Lake Tahoe and U.S. 50 (3 options: 2 all-weather + 1 non-wintertime) :
    Option 1: via Carson City (all-weather)
    • Take U.S. 50 East to Carson City.
    • Then use these steps listed above (following Variation 1) to get the rest of the way to Tonopah.
    Option 2: via Kingsbury Grade (all-weather)
    • Take U.S. 50 East to Nevada S.R. 207 (Kingsbury Grade), which is 0.67 mile past the California - Nevada border in Stateline, NV.
    • Turn right and take NV 207 for its entire 11.083 mile length to Nevada S.R. 88.
    • Turn left, onto NV 88 North and follow it to its northern terminus (a little over 2 miles) at U.S. 395 in Minden.
    • Turn right, onto U.S. 395 South, following it for about 20 miles, through Gardnerville, to Nevada S.R. 208 East (just north of Topaz Lake & the California state line).
    • Turn left, onto NV 208, and follow it for its entire 37.877 mile length, past Topaz Lake Estates, through Wellington (where a left turn is required), to Smith (where another left, then a right turn are required). After crossing the West Walker River, NV 208 swings north as it approaches Yerington (becoming Main Street), then ends on the north side of town at the junction with Alternate U.S. 95.
    • Continue straight on Main Street, as it now becomes Alternate U.S. 95 South (even though you're still going north at the actual intersection), curving first to the east, then later to the southeast, for a total of around 24 miles to its southern terminus at mainline U.S. 95 in Schurz.
    • From Schurz, follow U.S. 95 South past Walker Lake, through Hawthorne, to Coaldale Junction, a total of about 97 miles.
    • At Coaldale Junction, U.S. 6 East joins U.S. 95 South, as the combined (multiplexed) routes head east for around 40 miles to Tonopah, where U.S. 6 splits off to the east and U.S. 95 turns south toward the brothels described on this page.
    Option 3: via Markleeville (portions MAY be CLOSED in winter)
    • Take U.S. 50 West to where California S.R. 89 South splits off near Meyers (about 7 miles from their northern junction in South Lake Tahoe).
    • Turn left, onto CA 89 South, and follow it as it crosses Luther Pass (7735' elev.) to California S.R. 88 (about 11 miles later).
    • Turn left onto CA 88 East (staying on now-multiplexed CA 89 South) and follow it to where CA 89 splits off, a little over 6 miles later.
    • Turn right, onto CA 89 South and proceed through Markleeville, to where California S.R. 4 begins (a total of about 12 miles).
    • Turn left, remaining on CA 89 South. Follow it for the 18 or so miles to its terminus, as it heads east past Heenan Lake and across Monitor Pass (8314' elev.), then descends southeast to U.S. 395 north of Topaz.
    • At this point, you have two main (non-wintertime) alternatives to get to Coaldale Junction, NV:
      Alternative 1: via Yerington (all-weather)
      • Turn left, onto U.S. 395 North, following it past Topaz Lake, across the state line into Nevada, to the nearby junction of Nevada S.R. 208 East.
      • Turn right, onto NV 208, and follow it for its entire 37.877 mile length, past Topaz Lake Estates, through Wellington (where a left turn is required), to Smith (where another left, then a right turn are required). After crossing the West Walker River, NV 208 swings north as it approaches Yerington (becoming Main Street), then ends on the north side of town at the junction with Alternate U.S. 95.
      • Continue straight on Main Street, as it now becomes Alternate U.S. 95 South (even though you're still going north at the actual intersection), curving first to the east, then later to the southeast, for a total of around 24 miles to its southern terminus at mainline U.S. 95 in Schurz.

  • From areas along U.S. 395 between Walker and Mono Lake
    • Head south on U.S. 395, toward Mono Lake.
    • Just past Conway Summit (8143' elev.) you will encounter the junction of California S.R. 167. From here, you have three options, depending upon the season, to get to Coaldale Junction, NV:
      Option 1 (shorter, but CLOSED in winter):
      • Continue south on U.S. 395, past Mono Lake, to the southern junction of California 120 (12 miles from CA 167).
      • Turn left onto CA 120 East (CLOSED in winter), and proceed 46 miles to U.S. 6 at Benton, CA.
      • Turn left onto U.S. 6 East, and follow it 7 miles to the Nevada state line, then another 34 miles to Coaldale Junction.
      Option 2 (longer, but normally all-weather)
      • Turn left onto CA 167 and take approximately 20 miles to the Nevada state line, where it becomes Nevada S.R. 359 North. Continue the entire length of this route, 33.35 miles, to its northern terminus at U.S. 95 in Hawthorne.
      • Turn right, onto U.S. 95 South, and proceed the 64 miles or so to Coaldale Junction.
      Option 3 (longest, but all-weather)
      • Continue south on U.S. 395, past Mono Lake and both junctions of California 120, over Deadman's Pass (8036' elev.), through Crestview, past the turnoff to Mammoth Lakes (and the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area), into the upper Owens Valley by Lake Crowley, then on to U.S. 6 at Bishop (a total of about 72 miles from CA 167).
      • Turn left (north) onto U.S. 6 East, and follow it 41 miles to the Nevada state line, where it curves east. Proceed another 34 miles to Coaldale Junction.
    • At Coaldale Junction, U.S. 6 East joins U.S. 95 South, as the combined (multiplexed) routes head east for around 40 miles to Tonopah, where U.S. 6 splits off to the east and U.S. 95 turns south toward the brothels described on this page.

  • From areas between Mono Lake and Bishop (such as Mammoth Lakes):
    Unless its winter (when California S.R. 120 is closed between U.S. 395 and U.S. 6), or you're south of Lake Crowley along U.S. 395 (where it's shorter to just go via Bishop) you have two options to get to Coaldale Junction, NV:
    Option 1 (via Bishop)
    • Unless already in Bishop, take U.S. 395 South to that town.
    • Turn left (north) onto U.S. 6 East, and follow it 41 miles to the Nevada state line, where it curves east. Proceed another 34 miles to Coaldale Junction.
    Option 2 (via CA 120 which is CLOSED in winter)
    • Head north on U.S. 395, to California S.R. 120 East.
    • Turn right onto CA 120 East (CLOSED in winter), and proceed 46 miles to U.S. 6 at Benton, CA.
    • Turn left onto U.S. 6 East, and follow it 7 miles to the Nevada state line, then another 34 miles to Coaldale Junction.
  • At Coaldale Junction, U.S. 6 East joins U.S. 95 South, as the combined (multiplexed) routes head east for around 40 miles to Tonopah, where U.S. 6 splits off to the east and U.S. 95 turns south toward the brothels described on this page.

How to get to Tonopah from points to the North

• From Winnemucca (and points further north along U.S. 95), you have two basic options:
  • Option 1: via U.S. 95 South
    • Take I-80 West (multiplexed with U.S. 95 South) to exit #83: U.S. 95 South (to Fallon), about 95 miles.
    • Follow U.S. 95 through Fallon, past Schruz, and Walker Lake, through Hawthorne to Coaldale Junction, a total of about 169 miles from I-80.
    • At Coaldale Junction, U.S. 6 East joins U.S. 95 South, as the combined (multiplexed) routes head east for around 40 miles to Tonopah, where U.S. 6 splits off to the east and U.S. 95 turns south toward the brothels described on this page.
  • Option 2: via Battle Mountain (NV 305)
    • Take I-80 East to Battle Mountain exit #229: Nevada S.R. 304 (Business Loop 80 & Historic U.S. 40) and proceed into town.
    • Turn right (south) onto Nevada S.R. 305 (Broad Street), and follow it for its entire 88 mile length, to U.S. 50 just west of Austin.
    • Turn left onto U.S. 50 East (toward Austin, Eureka & Ely), and go 12 miles, passing through the town of Austin, then over the Toiyabe Range via Bob Scott Summit, to the northern terminus of Nevada S.R. 376.
    • Turn right, onto NV 376 and follow it south for its entire 106 mile length, to U.S. 6 just east of Tonopah.
    • Turn right onto U.S. 6 West and follow it about 6 miles to U.S. 95 South at Tonopah.

• From Battle Mountain:
  Note: If you're on I-80 (in either direction), you cannot access Nevada S.R. 305 without first exiting onto NV 304 (Business Loop 80 & Historic U.S. 40) and proceeding into town (use I-80 exit #229 from EB or #233 from WB). Once in central Battle Mountain, turn south at Broad Street, which is NV 305.
  • Take NV 305 South for its entire 88 mile length, to U.S. 50 just west of Austin.
  • Turn left onto U.S. 50 East (toward Austin, Eureka & Ely), and go 12 miles, passing through the town of Austin, then over the Toiyabe Range via Bob Scott Summit, to the northern terminus of Nevada S.R. 376.
  • Turn right, onto NV 376 and follow it south for its entire 106 mile length, to U.S. 6 just east of Tonopah.
  • Turn right onto U.S. 6 West and follow it about 6 miles to U.S. 95 South at Tonopah.

• From Carlin or Elko, you have two basic options:
  • Option 1: via Nevada S.R. 278
    Note: If you're coming from Elko and want to use this route, you have to exit I-80 and go through Carlin to access NV 278 since its exit on the freeway is EB-off only. See the Elko County Brothels page for more details and a map.
    • Get to NV 278 South in Carlin (see above note).
    • Proceed south on NV 278 to its southern terminus at U.S. 50, just west of Eureka.
    • Turn right onto U.S. 50 West (toward Austin & Fallon) and proceed 55 miles, to just past Hickson Summit (about 11 miles short of Austin), where you will find the northern terminus of Nevada S.R. 376.
    • Turn left, onto NV 376 and follow it south for its entire 106 mile length, to U.S. 6 just east of Tonopah.
    • Turn right onto U.S. 6 West and follow it about 6 miles to U.S. 95 South at Tonopah.
  • Option 2: via Battle Mountain (NV 305)
    • Take I-80 West, to Battle Mountain exit #233: Nevada S.R. 304 (Business Loop 80 & Historic U.S. 40) and proceed into town.
    • Turn left (south) onto Nevada S.R. 305 (Broad Street), and follow it for its entire 88 mile length, to U.S. 50 just west of Austin.
    • Turn left onto U.S. 50 East (toward Austin, Eureka & Ely), and go 12 miles, passing through the town of Austin, then over the Toiyabe Range via Bob Scott Summit, to the northern terminus of Nevada S.R. 376.
    • Turn right, onto NV 376 and follow it south for its entire 106 mile length, to U.S. 6 just east of Tonopah.
    • Turn right onto U.S. 6 West and follow it about 6 miles to U.S. 95 South at Tonopah.

  How to get to Tonopah from points to the Northeast (via Ely)

  From points northeast of Tonopah - such as Ely, Wells, and Salt Lake City (or other northern of central parts of Utah):

  If you're in one of these situations:

  • a: already in Ely? Then skip to step (2) below
  • b: already between Tonopah and Ely along U.S. 6? Then just take U.S. 6 West directly to Tonopah.
  otherwise:
  • (1) Proceed to Ely via one of the following:
         From Wells
    • Take U.S. 93 South to Ely (about 139 miles).
         From Salt Lake City or Northern Utah
    • Get to I-80 West in the Salt Lake City metro area.
    • Proceed to the Utah - Nevada State line at Wendover, UT & West Wendover, NV (about 118 miles from I-215 in Salt Lake City.
    • Take I-80 exit #410, Alternate U.S. 93 South in West Wendover (just across the border in Nevada).
    • Follow Alternate U.S. 93 South to its southern terminus at U.S. 93 South. This intersection is known as Lages Junction, and is just beyond the Elko - White Pine county line, or about 60 miles south of I-80.
    • Continue (straight) onto U.S. 93 South for another 60 miles to Ely.
         From Wendover, UT / West Wendover, NV
    • Proceed to Alternate U.S. 93 South in West Wendover (exit #410 of I-80.)
    • Follow Alternate U.S. 93 South to its southern terminus at U.S. 93 South. This intersection is known as Lages Junction, and is just beyond the Elko - White Pine county line, or about 60 miles south of I-80.
    • Continue (straight) onto U.S. 93 South for another 60 miles to Ely.
         From Central Utah
    • Proceed to Delta, UT by one of these two routes, as follows:
      From I-15 South (south of Provo):
      • Take exit #248: U.S. 6 West, then proceed 70 miles to Delta.
      From I-70 West (near Salina):
      • Take exit #54: U.S. 50 West, then proceed 30 miles to I-15, near Scipio.
      • Get on I-15 South (continuing on multiplexed U.S. 50 West) for about 10 miles.
      • Take exit #188: U.S. 50 West and proceed 2 miles through Holden, then 27 miles to Delta.
    • At Delta, U.S. 6 and U.S. 50 merge (multiplex) for the journey into Nevada. Follow this road 88 miles to the Utah - Nevada border, then beyond for another 37 miles to the intersection with U.S. 93 South at Major's Place Junction.
    • Continue straight on U.S 6 West (now multiplexed with U.S. 50 West and U.S. 93 North), as it curves northwest to reach Ely (about 26 miles later).

  • (2) Once at Ely, take U.S. 6 West for about 167 miles to its junction with U.S. 95 South at Tonopah.

  How to get to Tonopah from points to the East

  • From Lincoln County, NV
    • Get to the Extraterrestrial Highway (Nevada S.R. 375) at its junction with NV 318 (just west of U.S. 93. Take it for its entire 98 mile trek to Warn Springs.
    • At Warm Springs, turn left, taking U.S. 6 West the remaining 49 miles to U.S. 95 South at Tonopah, the gateway to the southern Nevada rural brothels.
  • From Southern Utah
    • Get to the Utah - Nevada border on Utah S.R. 56 West:
      • From Cedar City (I-15 exit #59), go west on UT 56 for about 61 miles)
      • From St. George (I-15 exit #6 or #8), get to Utah S.R. 18 North, then:
        • Follow UT 18 North for 42 miles (from center of St. George) to its northern terminus at UT 56
        • Take UT 56 West the remaining 25 miles to the Nevada state line
    • At the state line, Utah 56 becomes Nevada 319. Follow it west for its entire 21 mile length until you reach its western terminus at U.S. 93, juse west of Panaca.
    • Turn left, taking U.S. 93 South (toward Las Vegas) and remain on it as it curves west, about 14 miles later, in the town of Caliente (which is español  for hot).
    • About 43 miles west of Caliente, when U.S. 93 curves south once again to follow the White River valley into Clark County, you will be turning off of it (to the right) to get to the famous Extraterrestrial Highway (Nevada S.R. 375). But you actually turn off of U.S. 93 onto Nevada S.R. 318 North first, then shortly thereafter turn left onto NV 375 (North, I believe; though overall it runs more west than it does north - and it actually goes southwest for a while shortly hereafter, before swinging northwest).
    • Once on the "E.T. Highway", follow it for its entire 98 mile length, over Coyote Summit (near what was once called "Freedom Ridge" by those wanting to see what was going on in the infamous "Area 51" at nearby Groom Lake), through the small settlement of Rachel (home of the famous Little Ale'e'Inn, a tavern which is the unnofficial headquarters for UFO enthusiasts), past the Lincoln - Nye county line, and finally to the northern (western) terminus of NV 375 at U.S. 6 in the tiny burg of Warm Springs.
    • At Warm Springs, turn left, taking U.S. 6 West the remaining 49 miles to U.S. 95 South at Tonopah, the gateway to the southern Nevada rural brothels.
