High Street, at the mouth of Robinson Canyon (near where U.S. 50, the Nevada Northern Railway, and Gleason Creek all enter from the west), has been the traditional "red-light" district of Ely since frontier times. This street, which can be found at the far northwest end of town, is currently home to two legal brothels.

Since its history dates back to the 1880s, this brothel is claimed to be the oldest in Nevada. Technically though, it is one of the newest, since it was just licensed to its current ownership in November 2003 after a period of inactivity. An interesting history of this establishment, as well as of prostitution in this area of the community, can be found on their website.
The reopening of the Big 4 marked the rekindling of brothel competition on High Street, at the west end of Ely. However, this only lasted until the fall of 2005, when their rival across the street closed. However, by mid-summer of 2006 that rival establishment reopened under new ownership and managament, so there once again is a choice for brothel visitors in east-central Nevada.

This brothel is located at the far western end of town on High Street, near the mouth of Robinson Canyon, one block north of U.S. 50 (Aultman Avenue). It originally opened in 1965. At the dawn of the 21st century and until late 2003, the Stardust was the only remaining legal brothel operating in Ely. At that point, one of its old competitors reopened, just across the street. Subsequently in the fall of 2005, the Stardust, having fell upon hard times, gave up the ghost and closed. But by mid-summer 2006, the Stardust had been sold, relicensed, remodeled, and reopened under completely new ownership and management.
