The World-Famous Chicken Ranch (or "CR" for short) is on the left (east) side of Homestead Road, just a block south of its intersection with Silver Street (where an airstrip for the Ranch used to run to the east along the northern edge of the property) and about 3 miles south of the branch Post Office on the southwest corner of Homestead's intersection with Kellogg Road. In 2002, then-majority owners Russ Reade and Ken Green changed their establishment's long-standing policy of not having an Internet presence and comissioned a website. This bordello takes its name and legacy (and is also the home to certain memorabilia) from the famous, but long-since closed, original Chicken Ranch in LaGrange, TX. Renovations to the CR's parlor have made it very luxurious and homey (long gone are the infamous plastic seat-covered sofas) and the attached Leghorn Bar has also undergone a complete facelift. Many well-known figures, both customers and courtesans, have walked the legendary maze of hallways of the Chicken Ranch, as this house has enjoyed a stellar reputation over the many years it has operated in Pahrump. The present owners had reached an agreement for a sale of the CR in 2006; however, Nye County regulators rejected the purchasing ownership group's application for licensing and the sale subsequently fell through.

Sheri's is just two blocks south of the Chicken Ranch, also on the left (east) side of Homestead, and sits at the end of the paved road, which will conveniently deposit you into their parking lot. Since a major renovation and expansion took place in 2001-02, Sheri's many rooms and luxurious facilities entice working ladies and customers alike. Chuck Lee, lead spokesperson for Sheri's current ownership group, announced big plans for further development of the property back in the mid-2000s, and the group has subsequently added a small on-site hotel (see their website for details). It is not currently known if they still plan to add a golf course as originally announced, but they nonetheless seem well on their path to developing (in their words) "a true world-class adult resort."

How to get to the Pahrump brothels from Las Vegas:

RECENT NEWS:
Speed Limit Lowered on S.R. 160 (Blue Diamond Road)
The Nevada Department of Transportation, in cooperation with local officials, has lowered the speed limit on State Route 160 (Blue Diamond Rd) between I-15 and Durango Drive to 45 M.P.H. effective immediately. Please see the following article from the March 3, 2006 edition of the Las Vegas Review-Journal  for more information. Also, please be alert for even lower speed limits in the construction zone between Decatur Blvd and Rainbow Blvd. Police enforcement is expected to be heavy, so watch your speed lest you waste your party money on traffic fines - or worse yet, become a traffic fatality (like the late adult film star Anna Malle did on this stretch of road in early 2006). Drive safe, arrive alive!

Detailed directions: Las Vegas to Pahrump (multiple alternatives)

There are several ways to get to the Pahrump brothels on either end of the jounrey from Las Vegas, but the middle portion of the trip uses Nevada S.R. 160 (also known as the Pahrump Valley Highway). For the purposes of brevity, I will only detail the most feasible options.

(1) Get on I-15 southbound (toward Los Angeles) and proceed to exit #33: Blue Diamond Road (NV 160 - Pahrump) on the south side of Las Vegas. The first stoplight, west of those for this exit, is at Dean Martin Drive (formerly known as Industrial Road), just past the Silverton Hotel on your left. Use the right lane on the freeway exit ramp to merge directly onto west-southwest-bound Blue Diamond Road, but immediately past that merge point, you must move one lane to your left to get to the through lane of Nevada 160 (since your lane from the exit must turn right onto northbound Dean Martin Drive at the stoplight, a mere one block later). See the special note about NV 160 road construction below and be aware that construction of this project has finally begun.

(2) Follow NV 160 southwest through the construction zone, past the stoplight at Rainbow Boulevard (unsigned NV 595), past the new traffic signal and intersection for the recently-entended Durango Drive, to the junction with NV 159 (which goes to the town of Blue Diamond & the Red Rock Canyon beyond). I now label this particular unsignalized intersection as the "Las Vegas gateway", the single point which all of the possible alternative routes in the metro area have in common for this particular journey. It is 10.03 miles distant from the stoplight at Dean Martin Dr, 6.68 miles from the one at Rainbow Blvd, and 4.66 miles from the signal at Durango Dr.

(3) At the county line (which is the "gateway point" at the Pahrump end of this journey), you now have two main choices (plus one additional option for each if you miss certain turns):

(3a) Gamebird/Homestead (traditionally recommended) Route:
(3a:1) Continue on NV 160, 4.1 miles past the Clark - Nye county line, to Gamebird Road.
(3a:2a) Normal route:
(3a:2a:1) Turn left (west) onto Gamebird and proceed 3.0 miles to the 4-Way STOP sign at Homestead Road.
(3a:2a:2) Turn left again (south) onto Homestead, proceed past Terrible's Lakeside Casino and later past the Post Office branch at Kellogg Road, a total of 6.05 miles from the 4-Way STOP at Gamebird to the Chicken Ranch or 6.2 miles to the end of the paved road at Sheri's Ranch.
(3a:2b) The "if you miss the turn at Gamebird Road option":
(3a:2b:1) Stay on NV 160 another 3.4 miles to its now-signalized intersection with Homestead Road and Winery Road (a total of about 7.5 miles from the current Clark - Nye county line).
(3a:2b:2) Turn left (south) onto Homestead, proceeding straight at the 4-Way STOP sign at Gamebird Road, then continue past Terrible's Lakeside Casino and later past the Post Office branch at Kellogg Road, a total of 7.75 miles from NV 160 to the Chicken Ranch or 7.9 miles to the end of the paved road at Sheri's Ranch.

(3b) Shortest (or "secret", Back) Routes:
(3b:1) Continue on NV 160, 3.1 miles past the Clark - Nye county line, to C.A.A.S. Road. If you miss this turn, just use the "Traditional (Gamebird/Homestead) Route" above.
(3b:2) Turn left (west) and follow C.A.A.S. Road as it makes a 90° curve to the left (south) and becomes Hafen Ranch Road. Continue, a total of 2.85 miles (from NV 160) to Kellogg Road at the recently-built (Fall 2002) Hafen Elementary School (on the southwest corner of Hafen Ranch and Kellogg).
(3b:3) You now have two options from this point:
Option 1 - C.A.A.S./Kellogg (the original "back" route):
(3b:3:1a) Make a right turn (west) onto Kellogg, keeping the school on your left, and proceed 3.0 miles to the STOP sign at Homestead Road.
(3b:3:1b) Turn left (south) onto Homestead and go 3.05 miles to the Chicken Ranch or 3.2 miles to the end of the paved road at Sheri's Ranch.
Option 2 - C.A.A.S./Turner (the "new champion" for shortest route):
(3b:3:2a) If you miss the turn at Kellogg, or simply want to take the absolute shortest route, continue south on Hafen Ranch Road. You'll pass the new school on your right, and don't fret, as this formerly dirt road is now a smooth paved one. Just past the school, about 0.25 miles past Kellogg, Hafen Ranch Road splits off. Remain on the paved route, as it curves to the right (south-southwest) to become Indian Reservation Road. About 0.875 miles later, you curve right again (to head due west); at this point the road becomes Turner Boulevard. Follow Turner another 2.5 miles to the STOP sign at Homestead Road.
(3b:3:2b) Turn left (south) onto Homestead and go 2.05 miles to the Chicken Ranch or 2.2 miles to the end of the paved road at Sheri's Ranch.
Unless you're closely watching your odometer, when returning to Las Vegas from the brothels, the Post Office branch makes much a better landmark to spot the turn at Kellogg since there's not much (yet) to distinguish the corner of Homestead and Turner other than the small street sign.

Notes: The last service station between Las Vegas and Pahrump is at the junction with NV 159 (where Blue Diamond Road splits off); west of this point, the road's name becomes Pahrump Highway (but the designation remains NV 160). About the only civilization between these points consists of a few scattered homes, a fire station, and a saloon, most of which are near the Mountain Springs Summit. There are passing lanes for both westbound and eastbound traffic as you climb into the Mountain Springs area, but only one lane on the eastbound descent. This is NOT a difficult mountainous road, but CAN be dangerous because of high traffic volume and impatient or unattentive drivers. The weather is rarely a problem, except for some occasional fog or patchy ice in winter (and, of course, the desert heat throughout the region in summer). Once you're a couple of miles past the Summit westbound, the road becomes a 4-lane divided facility with a 70 M.P.H. speed limit until you approach Pahrump. It is highly recommended that you observe the posted speed limits carefully on all segments of this highway; while most of it is rather remote, it still has a high volume of traffic and is patrolled frequently. Relax and enjoy this scenic drive, safely!

For you road geek types, know that the "official name" of the road changes again (slightly) at the county line. Pahrump Highway (Clark County) becomes Pahrump Valley Highway (Nye County), but the designation remains Nevada State Route 160 in both juristictions.

Once near Pahrump, the "secret back" route using C.A.A.S. Road to Kellogg Road is only a couple tenths of a mile shorter than the traditional Gamebird Road route, and has a couple of extra turns, but has the distinct advantage of avoiding the accident-prone stretch of Homestead Road around Terrible's Lakeside Casino. The "new" shortest route, using Turner Boulevard, saves another quarter mile or so over the "classic" C.A.A.S./Kellogg shortcut.

Special Note: Major Road Construction on Blue Diamond Road (NV 160) in southwestern metro Las Vegas:
W20-1For the next two years, NVDOT will be reconstructing Blue Diamond Road (NV 160) between Las Vegas Boulevard South (NV 604) and Rainbow Boulevard (unsigned NV 595). This 4.35 mile section of highway will be rebuilt from two to eight thru-travel lanes, the at-grade crossing of the Union Pacific railroad mainline will be replaced with an overpass, the intersection with Jones Blvd will be realigned, the interchange with I-15 will be totally rebuilt (and relocated), and the eastern terminus of Blue Diamond will be realigned 4 blocks south of its current location to feed directly into the intersection of LVBS and Windmill Lane. Needless to say, major delays are to be expected in this area (especially during rush hours) now that construction on this project has finally begun!

Though Phase 2A (LVBS to Decatur including the revised I-15 interchange) has now been mostly completed (as of 12/2007), upcoming work on Phase 2B will still cause major headaches for motorists using Blue Diamond Road to get to or from Pahrump via I-15, Therefore, using one of the alternate routes suggested below remains a good idea for now.

Two alternate routes to avoid this construction zone would be as follows (see map below):

via Durango Route (best Detour):
(1) Instead of exiting I-15 at Blue Diamond Road (exit #33: NV 160), use exit #34B (from either direction on I-15) to Clark County 215 WEST (the Las Vegas Beltway). If you already happen to be westbound on Interstate 215 (coming from McCarran Airport or Henderson), continue straight ahead on this freeway, as it becomes Clark County Route 215 once you are west of I-15.
(2) Follow the Beltway (Clark County Route 215) west about 5.6 miles then take the Durango Boulevard exit (#15).
(3) The exit ramp merges onto the westbound frontage road. When you reach the stoplight at Durango Blvd, turn left (south) and proceed 3.15 miles to the recently-installed traffic signal at Blue Diamond Road (NV 160).
(4) At the stoplight for Blue Diamond, turn right (west) and resume following the regular directions for NV 160 WEST to Pahrump.
via Rainbow Route (alternate Detour):
(1) Instead of exiting I-15 at Blue Diamond Road (exit #33: NV 160), use exit #34B (from either direction on I-15) to Clark County 215 WEST (the Las Vegas Beltway). If you already happen to be westbound on Interstate 215 (coming from McCarran Airport or Henderson), continue straight ahead on this freeway, as it becomes Clark County Route 215 once you are west of I-15.
(2) Follow the Beltway (Clark County Route 215) west about 3.5 miles then take the Rainbow Boulevard (unsigned NV 595) exit (#13).
(3) The exit ramp merges onto the westbound frontage road. When you reach the stoplight at Rainbow Blvd, turn left (south) and proceed 3.13 miles to Blue Diamond Road (NV 160).
(4) At the stoplight for Blue Diamond, turn right (west-southwest) and resume following the regular directions for NV 160 WEST to Pahrump.
